ARTT-122 History of Modern Art
This course introduces art as a reflection of humanity our diversity and our creative processes. The History of Modern Art will root the cultural achievements of the 20th Century in their historical settings, showing how the political, social, and economic events of the period influenced artistic creation. This course is a survey of the most important movements in Western Art from the late 19th Century to the early 21st Century. The impact of Modernism on painting, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media will be covered. Students will learn the major artists and the influence that each art movement has on the next generation of artists. This is an important course for those who want to understand contemporary art. It also meets the oral presentation requirement for graduation.
