Non-Degree Credit Policy
Physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, nurses, and other health care professionals holding a bachelor's degree may enroll as non-degree students in selected courses on a space-available basis. Institute payment plans are not available to non-degree students.
The number of non-degree course credits that may be applied toward a degree (MS, DPT, and DNP) or certificate (CAS) is set by each program (see below). No credit will be granted for courses in which a grade of less than B was awarded.
Program-specific credit maximums are:
School of Nursing
- BSN - None. BSN courses are not offered to non-degree students.
- MS and CAS - 6 credits
- DNP - 9 credits
School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences
Communication Sciences and Disorders:
- MS - 12 credits
- CAS - 6 credits
Physical Therapy:
- Entry-Level DPT - None. DPT courses are not offered to non-degree students.
- Transitonal DPT - None. However, non-degree students may take courses in the critical inquiry sequence of the tDPT and then apply them within a portfolio. (This is not the same as applying those courses to the degree.)
- Advanced MS - 6 credits
- CAS - 6 credits
Center for Interprofessional Studies and Innovation (CIPSI)
- CAS - Teaching and Learning Certificate for Health Care Educators - 6 credits
- MS - Master of Science in Health Professions Education - 6 credits as non-degree students, with the exception of credit waived by portfolio with our collaborators.
- PhD in Rehabilitation Sciences – handled on a case by case basis by the PhD Executive Committee.
