Graduate and Research Assistantships
The Institute offers a number of different job opportunities for students. They are called Graduate or Research Assistantships that allow students to earn a small stipend to offset some educational costs. Institute Graduate Assistantships will be posted on the HR webpage at the beginning of each semester. Academic Programs and faculty may also have research assistantships posted in their respective schools.
International Student Employment at the Institute
International students maintaining F-1 status are eligible for up to 20 hours/week of on-campus employment while classes are in session. [Students may work full time during recognized school vacation periods.] Due to the Institute’s educational affiliation with MGH, BWH, Spaulding, Faulkner and Newton-Wellesley hospitals employment at these sites is considered “on-campus employment at an off-campus location”. The Institute requires that employment at one of these sites must relate to the student’s program of study and must be approved by International Student Services.
F-1 students should report their employment to International Student Services. F-1 students will be issued a certification letter to present to the Social Security Administration in order to be able to receive a Social Security number which is required to be paid in the U.S. Engaging in curricular practical training may affect the number of allowed hours of on-campus employment.
On-campus graduate, teaching and research assistantship positions are posted on the Institute’s website. Positions at the Institute’s affiliated hospital sites can be found at the Partners HealthCare System, Inc. website.
