Nancy and George Putnam Student Lounge

A comfortably furnished student lounge is located on the 3rd floor of the Shouse Building. Refrigerators and microwave ovens are provided for the storage and heating of small meals. Self-service coffee and tea is also available throughout the day and evening. All Institute students share the responsibility for keeping the area clean. Although this area is primarily intended for quiet relaxation and conversation, students may, at their discretion, use this space for study.

Library Services

As a student at the MGH Institute of Health Professions, you have exclusive access to the same health care and medical information used by doctors and medical students at Massachusetts General Hospital and Harvard Medical School.

Visit our Library and Learning Resources page for detailed information.

Student Study Space

Two quiet study spaces are located on the fourth floors of the Catherine Filene Shouse Building and Building 38.  They are open to all students during operating hours. Group study rooms are also available to reserve.

Student Printing, Copying and Scanning

Students have access to devices which provide print, copy and scan functionality located within the Student Work Room (Room 307), in the Student Study area on the 4th floor,  in 2 Constitution Center and in the Library and Study Commons in Bldg 38. Students can send files to be printed from Institute or personally owned laptops, walk up to copy paper documents, and scan paper documents into PDF files and send them to their email address.

Students will receive $37 credit towards printing and copying each academic semester. There is no charge for scanning. When a student uses their semester credit they must add funds to their account through the vending style devices on the 4th floor of Building 36 and in 2CC.

The cost to print or copy a color page is $.15 and a black and white page is $.07.

Additional information on how to access and use theses devices will be distributed through the Office of Information Technology. If you need assistance please open a help desk ticket at http://helpdesk.mghihp.edu.

Bulletin Boards

Bulletin boards and email are the standard means by which the Institute communicates with students. Every student is assigned an Institute email account, which students are expected to monitor, as many official or time-sensitive notices are sent via email. The Office of Student and Alumni Services (OSAS)  must approve all posting of signs by students on bulletin boards. Any student-posted material not approved by OSAS will be removed.

Fax Machine

A fax machine available for student use can be found in the 3rd floor student workroom. It is the student's responsibility to pick up any incoming faxes in a timely manner.

Lockers

Lockers are issued by the Office of Student and Alumni Services to students as available. Full-time students receive preference for locker assignment. At the end of the academic year and summer term, students must empty their lockers regardless of whether or not they will be returning for the following semester.

Bicycle Racks

Bicycle racks are located in the west alcove of the Shouse Building, and in four locations in the Constitution Center complex. Riders must provide their own locks. Neither the Institute nor building management is responsible for bicycle security. For $5/day, students can store their bikes in the secure bike cage inside the Navy Yard parking garage at Building 199.
