HCHEM-453 Gen Chem 1 for the Hlth Sci

Prerequisite: Mathematics through high school algebra and introductory college level biology. Prior knowledge in chemistry is not essential but helpful. General Chemistry for the Health Science I is an introductory course in chemistry. The topics in this course are explained and discussed in context with simple clinical applications to different health professions, such as nursing, physical therapy, occupational therapy, pharmacy etc. It involves dimensional analysis, introduction to the structure and properties of atoms and molecules, periodic table, balancing chemical reactions, stoichiometry, thermochemistry and gas laws. The lab for this course provides on a hands-on experience using a lab kit purchased from eScience Labs. You will perform each experiment, record your notes, obtain results and respond to pre and post experiment questions; write a final lab report including Introduction, Objectives, Methods and Materials, Procedure, and Results.
