Clinical Incident
In the event of an any injury to a student in a clinical setting, the student is responsible for notifying the clinical instructor or the preceptor of the incident. Costs associated with health care services associated with an injury are the responsibility of the student.
For injuries resulting in exposure of blood/body fluids, the clinical instructor/preceptor advocates for the student as follows:
- assures that the student receives timely services and complies with the procedures in place at the organization where the exposure occurred;
- assures that testing and counseling are offered to the student;
- reports the incident to the faculty of record;
- reviews the incident with the student prior to the next clinical day to assure that undue risk is avoided in the future.
- The faculty of record completes a (Appendix E for the Incident Report ) and submits the form to the respective Program Dean. This report must include: the student's name, date, time, place, organizational process, whether testing and counseling occurred. [see Appendix]
