Arts Administration, B.S.
The bachelor of science in arts administration provides a foundation in business administration, along with training in music or theater. This interdisciplinary major includes courses in business management, administration in arts organizations, and music or theater performance. Students are able to apply the knowledge gained in coursework through hands-on experiences, including an internship in the non-profit arts sector. Bachelor of science graduates who understand music or theater and possess business and organizational skills have multiple career opportunities in non-profit and arts organizations.
Learning Outcomes for Arts Administration Majors
- Students will communicate using language and methods specific to the fields of business and music or theater.
- Students will understand the structure and operational roles of an arts organization.
- Students will design and execute a successful arts event.
- Students will develop effective collaborative skills for use within the arts.
- Students will learn principles and skills related to managing a nonprofit organization.
Capstone
For their capstone, arts administration students will produce an arts event for the University of Portland. This experience will provide hands-on experience in managing a real-life arts event in collaboration with faculty, staff, and students.
