NH-846 Global Health Practicum

Prerequisites: NH-842, NH-826, NH-844, NH-845. This course will integrate the theoretical knowledge gained in pre-requisite course work and apply it to a global delivery setting. Students will be placed with a clinical mentor in a global health setting to learn how nursing functions, how care is delivered and what the expectations of professional nursing are in the practice environment. Working in a global setting, with a local care delivery team, the licensed student will provide nursing care under the local nurses mentorship in a student capacity. During this time it is expected that the mentor and student will learn from each other and identify ways in which their partnership can improve care. The specific aims of each practicum will be defined by the faculty in partnership with the student and needs of the local care setting. If necessary due to travel and length of stay at a care site, the practicum can span two semesters.
