Prerequisites for the Health Professions
The Prerequisites for the Health Professions program at the MGH Institute is designed for students who seek to take one or more quality prerequisite science courses to prepare for graduate school. Many of our students are extending their education or changing careers to become a health care professional.
At the only degree-granting institution within the renowned Partners HealthCare System, students are taught by faculty who practice or conduct research at world-class hospitals such as Massachusetts General Hospital, Brigham and Women’s Hospital, and the Spaulding Rehabilitation Network; as well as leading academic institutes including Harvard University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

- Course examples focus on health care
- Faculty are trained and mentored in online instruction.
- Classes are small and instructor-led; students learn with and from instructors and interprofessional colleagues.

All of the undergraduate-level courses are designed to satisfy the prerequisites for entry into the health professions. All courses are taught fully online and asynchronously. There are no pre-scheduled class times and no need to come to our physical campus.
The program is designed to provide several advantages that promote success in completion of our prerequisite courses:
- Learning from practicing clinicians and researchers who know firsthand how the basic sciences required for admission to graduate school are actually used in clinical practice and research.
- Participating in rigorous laboratory learning experiences which can include both virtual and hands-on laboratory learning experiences. As in traditional instruction, these learning experiences have been selected to align with the didactic curriculum and designed to replicate the essential experiences that a student would encounter in an on-site lab.
- Accessing further academic support from trained tutors or lab instructors when needed.
- Studying and learning where you want and when you want. You don't have to log in to your class at a specific time each week. Our courses are organized into week-long modules that allow you to plan your time for reading, reflecting, and participating in each week's activities.
- Receiving personal technical support Monday through Saturday from our Office of Information Technology. Additional (24/7) support is available through the Partners Help Desk.
