HE-921 Cognitive Science of Learning

Prerequisite:  Enrollment in HPEd PhD Program. This course will cover the application of the field of cognitive science to learning and performance. The course will review theoretical principles, practical applications, and evaluation of underlying evidence including concepts for the educator (cognitive load theory, constructivism, analogical transfer) and concepts for the learner (goal orientation, metacognition, retrieval, spaced learning, and deliberate practice). Knowledge gaps that could inform research agendas will be highlighted.
