ARTT-287 Far Eastern Art and Architecture

In this survey of Far Eastern art and architecture, students will investigate the human condition and achievements of Asian cultures and discover how art reflects the cultures and human values of this unique area of the world. The students will be introduced to the varied ways Asian art has expressed responses to existence and the search for meaning. This course will address the extraordinary diversity of form and intent that distinguishes it from Western culture and will examine its cultural forces that have helped to shape the art of that region. Areas of focus will include visual art as is relates to philosophy, history and literature in Asian cultures. The student will acquire the fundamental knowledge about the significance of arts, culture and the creative process in Asia and its impact to our global culture.
