This curriculum is designed as a guide for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to complete a bachelor’s degree in Studio Art. Specific recommendations are made to fulfill the foundation requirements for Towson University and UMBC. The main emphasis in this area of study is the development of fundamental principles, conceptual abilities, and technical skills demonstrated in a student’s transfer portfolio. Students are advised to check the requirements of the institution to which they intend to transfer.
General Education Core
Students enrolled in transfer patterns must take a minimum of 30 credits in General Education. Each student’s total of general education and required courses must equal at least 60 semester hours of credit.
Composition
Arts & Humanities
The Arts & Humanities requirement may alternatively be fulfilled by completing a World Language Sequence plus one of the following courses: SPCH-151, THET-101, THET-102, THET-103, THET-202, THET-241, or WMST-193. Students who choose to complete a World Language Sequence are not required to complete the 3 credits of open Core Electives.

A graduate should be able to
- 1. Identify, understand, evaluate, and apply ethical reasoning as it applies to visual arts.
- 2. Develop and demonstrate self-confidence, motivation, risk-taking abilities, visual literacy, and perceptual awareness as it applies to visual arts.
- 3. Demonstrate mastery of various tools and processes, and their applications for creating two- and three-dimensional art in various forms, as it relates to elements of art and principles of design.
- 4. Analyze historical perspective as it relates to art history from ancient to contemporary art and culture from around the world.
- 5. Effectively include content and meaning in one’s own artwork, and examine individual and group projects, intellectually critiquing one’s own artwork and that of others.
