MATH-141 College Algebra

In this course students will learn the language of functions and be introduced to families of functions and their applications. Topics include linear, quadratic, exponential, and logarithmic functions. Other topics include solving systems of linear equations using matrices, matrix algebra and linear programming. Emphasis will be placed on solving problems algebraically and with the technological tools used in business and the social sciences.

  1. 1. Communicate college-level mathematical concepts related to functions and linear
    programming using appropriate language and symbols.
  2. 2. Model applications related to real-world issues including global awareness, sustainability,
    and financial literacy using the families of functions, including linear programming problems
    using the graphing and simplex method.
  3. 3. Analyze and evaluate solutions to equations algebraically and graphically for the
    reasonableness of the solution.
  4. 4. Identify and implement appropriate technologies to efficiently complete tasks that involve the
    solving of cross-discipline, mathematically appropriate problems and creating new works to
    communicate the processes used and solution.
