ARTT-242 Creative Darkroom Techniques

This course will examine and apply the materials and elements of experimental photographic techniques to enhance the student's artistic self expression. Extensive lab work will be required with emphasis on experimental darkroom techniques.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Describe the experimental darkroom techniques of Sabattier/Solarization, and High contrast/Litho film.
  2. 2. Describe the photographic techniques involved in abstraction and night photography.
  3. 3. Report on a photographer who uses creative techniques in his/her work.
  4. 4. Illustrate night photography in a group of photographs.
  5. 5. Employ the photographic technique of abstraction in a group of photographs.
  6. 6. Apply the darkroom technique of Sabattier/Solarization in a group of photographs.
  7. 7. Apply the darkroom technique of High contrast/Litho film in a group of photographs.
  8. 8. Analyze various viewpoints on photography in a journal.
  9. 9. Analyze photographic exhibits in a journal.
  10. 10. Create a portfolio of works incorporating the experimental techniques learned in this course.
  11. 11. Critique photographs for creativity, content, quality, and composition.
