Gifted and Talented Students

Students in the eighth through tenth grades and are enrolled in a public or private school's gifted and talented programs, or can otherwise demonstrate exceptional abilities, may be considered for admission to credit courses on a case-by-case basis. Applicants must submit submit the college’s Early Entrance application and addendum, official middle school grade reports or secondary school transcripts as appropriate, and proof of legal residency. In accordance with state law, other documentation of outstanding abilities and maturity, such as enrollment in gifted and talented programs, test scores, recommendations, portfolios or awards, must be submitted to assist with admissions decisions. A pre-admissions interview, with at least one parent or guardian in attendance, is required. Appropriate placement testing is also required. Students attending the college on this basis may enroll for a maximum of two courses per term. Students admitted based upon the college’s Gifted and Talented policies are generally restricted from enrolling in developmental coursework unless: a) the student places above college-level but wishes to review; b) the student places into and wants to take the college’s highest level college preparatory math class. Continuing Education noncreditdit courses are not available to students younger than 16 years old unless the courses are specifically designated for youth.
