This curriculum is designed for students planning to transfer to a four-year institution to major or minor in philosophy or religious studies. Its focus on the capacity to analyze complex arguments and think critically will prepare students for careers in law, international business, international relations, and other fields that require a broad understanding of divergent worldviews and the cultures with which they interact.

A graduate should be able to

  1. 1. Identify, understand, evaluate, and apply ethical reasoning.
  2. 2. Develop intellectual curiosity, open-mindedness, and tolerance.
  3. 3. Analyze assumptions about reality, knowledge, and value within the worldviews of the West, Asia, and Traditional Africa.
  4. 4. Discuss the basic beliefs and sacred texts, rituals, and practices of the world's major religions.

Total Credit Hours: 60

The Arts & Humanities Core requirement may alternatively be fulfilled by completing a World Language Sequence plus one of the following courses: SPCH 151, THET 102, THET 103, THET 202, THET 241, or WMST 193. Students who choose to complete a World Language Sequence are not required to complete General Education Core Electives, but must take 9 credits instead of 8 credits of Electives.
