Health Care for the Professional - A.A.S. Degree (Career)

This area of study is designed for individuals who are working as allied health professionals and who desire to prepare themselves for advancement in the area of health care management or to broaden their knowledge in their professional area. Students who are currently licensed, registered, or certified in an allied health field are eligible to apply for admission to this program and advanced standing. Advanced standing credit will be awarded for previous education and experience after successful completion of the English, mathematics, and science requirements*.

A graduate should be able to

  1. 1. Identify, understand, evaluate, and apply ethical reasoning used by allied health care professionals in the delivery of healthcare.
  2. 2. Compare and contrast various diseases, including prevention and treatment.
  3. 3. Apply concepts of management, including planning, organizing, decision making, staffing, and controlling in the health care environment.

*Advanced Standing

  • Cardiovascular Technology - Credit will be given as advanced standing credit for cardiovascular technology training completed at a cardiac catheterization laboratory which led to the national certification examination to become a Registered Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS).
  • Radiologic Technology - Credit will be given as advanced standing credit for radiologic technology training completed at a radiologic technology training site which led to the national certification examination to become a Registered Radiologic Technologist (RT)
  • Emergency Medical Technician - Credit will be given as advanced standing credit for paramedic training completed at an EMS training site leading to national certification as an EMT-Paramedic.
  • Massage - Credit will be given as advanced standing credit for massage therapy training which led to one or both of the following certification: Board Certified Massage Therapist (NCBTMB) or National Certification in Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB).  Verification of Certification, licensure to practice in the state of Maryland, and employment are required.
