ARTT 208 Environmental Design: Contemporary Issues in Architecture

Students will study green technology in Architecture, Landscape Architecture, and Urban Planning. They will do scaled working drawings, make models, and create advanced proposals and project designs using computer-aided design. Using the principles of Energy Efficient Building, students will design Green Architecture that focuses on low cost prefabricated homes for the expanding population of America and the world.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Develop plans for a spatial design using two-dimensional and three dimensional design
    principles.
  2. 2. Integrate an understanding of theoretical issues in environmental design into functional
    designs using the concepts of green technology.
  3. 3. Create freehand perspective, orthographic, and axonometric visualizations of
    architectural structures.
  4. 4. Use computer-aided design programs for more professional presentations.
  5. 5. Select building approaches and environment-friendly materials appropriate to specific
    designs that use the principles of Energy Efficient Building.
  6. 6. Demonstrate in plans and visualizations a comprehension of space and its delineators as
    environmental and design elements.
  7. 7. Use a combination of realistic problem-solving techniques and environment-friendly
    solutions in analyzing spatial planning.
  8. 8. Synthesize the issues of human need, environmental setting, building technology,
    aesthetics, and green technology into design proposals.
  9. 9. Present a portfolio and models demonstrating the mastery of course objectives.
