ARTT 215 Pastel Drawing

Students will use pastels as a color medium in drawing. Fundamental drawing skills will be combined with color mixing and color design to explore traditional and contemporary approaches to pastel. The variety of subject matter will include still life, interiors, landscape, portrait, and figures. Students will explore the influences of other artists and styles as they develop their own individual expression.

  1. 1. Use a variety of application and manipulation techniques.

  3. 3. Select a basic color palette to represent local color and the effect of light and shadow.
  4. 4. Use color relationships to create harmony.
  5. 5. Apply design principles to create unified compositions with visual interest.
  6. 6. Develop a sense of space using drawing and color concepts.
  7. 7. Use pastel to interpret a variety of subject matter with personal expression.
  8. 8. Identify artists that have contributed to the use of pastel as an important medium in the
    history of art.
  9. 9. Use the models of expressionism, impressionism, and realism to learn different levels of
    depiction and suggestion.
