EMSP 249 Special Needs Patients Clinical

Students will be able to integrate anatomy, physiology, developmental considerations, and pathophysiological principles and assessment findings to formulate a field impression and implement the treatment plan for neonatal, newborn, pediatric, toddler, school-aged, adolescent, and obstetrical, gynecological, and geriatric patients. In addition, patients who are physically or mentally challenged, chronically ill patients, and patients with common complaints will be examined for their unique special needs.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Devise a treatment plan based on the signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology of a threatened,
    imminent, or complete pre-term miscarriage.
  2. 2. Devise a treatment plan based on the signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology of a normal
    delivery of a full-term fetus.
  3. 3. Devise a treatment plan based on the signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology of a post-partum
    female.
  4. 4. Devise a treatment plan for a home delivery and interaction with family members, midwives, or
    other trained members of the community based on signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology of
    the obstetrical patient and fetus.
  5. 5. Devise a treatment plan for a poorly responsive, ill, or pulseless neonate based on the signs,
    symptoms, and pathophysiology.
  6. 6. Devise a treatment plan for a pediatric patient based on signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology
    of specific system complaints.
  7. 7. Devise a treatment plan for a pediatric patient based on signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology
    of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.
  8. 8. Devise a treatment plan for a pediatric patient based on signs, symptoms, and pathophysiology
    of any apparent life-threatening event.
  9. 9. Manage the pediatric patient in an appropriate manner so as to reduce patient and caregiver
