ENTR 101 Entrepreneurship and Creativity

This course is designed to introduce students to the concept of sustainable entrepreneurship, a manageable process that can be applied across careers and work settings. It focuses on building entrepreneurial attitudes and behaviors that will lead to creative solutions within community and organizational environments. Course topics include the history of entrepreneurship, the role of entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs in the 21st century global economy, and the identification of entrepreneurial opportunities. The elements of creative problem-solving, the development of a business concept/model, the examination of feasibility studies, and the social/moral/ethical implications of entrepreneurship are incorporated. This course is directed toward forging views of entrepreneurship and intrapreneurship as they operate in today's world. Credit will only be granted for one of the following: ENTR 100 or ENTR 101.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Define entrepreneurship, its relationship to creativity and invention, and its role and impact within
    the context of society, organizations, and individuals.
  2. 2. Assess, reflect, and critically analyze the creative and entrepreneurial attitudes, behaviors,
    processes, and resulting outcomes through collaborative critique activities.
  3. 3. Identify and apply a variety of creativity-enhancing techniques to analyze and generate multiple
    innovative solutions to a problem.
  4. 4. Describe and overcome obstacles to creative problem-solving.
  5. 5. Evaluate ideas by problem-solving to find the best opportunity, and by analyzing for risk-reward
    and market feasibility.
  6. 6. Develop a concept for an innovative product or service that solves a problem in your own area of
    interest, analyze the marketplace for feasibility and risk, create a sustainable business model, and
    effectively communicate and defend a persuasive argument for this change.
  7. 7. Demonstrate that entrepreneurial success depends on teamwork and the diversity of viewpoints of
    others.
  8. 8. Develop and apply a framework for recognizing, evaluating, and managing the ethical dilemmas
    and social responsibilities facing entrepreneurs with new venture creation.
