HMGT 165 Introduction to the Cruise Ship Industry

This introductory course acquaints students with current issues and trends related to the cruise industry. This also includes different types of cruise lines and the reasons for the popularity of this mode of travel. The course will focus on major elements of sea-based and land-based cruise preparation.

  1. 1. Research the different types of cruise companies.
  2. 2. Distinguish between different types of itineraries.
  3. 3. Compare and contrast various types of services that a cruise ship provides.
  4. 4. Evaluate the elements of dining patterns and accommodations options.
  5. 5. Study the duties and responsibilities of a sea based management and cruise staff.
  6. 6. Categorize various types of pre-cruise and post-cruise options.
  7. 7. Analyze the major cruise regions of the world and the itinerary patterns for the areas.
  8. 8. Propose an effective solution for a cruise that will satisfy the requirements of most clients.
  9. 9. Interpret cruise brochures, and other marketing correspondence.
  10. 10. Analyze and apply a cruise marketing campaign.
