INDS 106 Space Planning for Interior Design

This course covers the functional, aesthetic, and spatial design of interior spaces. The vocabulary and drafting skills used by professionals in the interior design industry will also be covered. Students will examine environmental, interior and architectural problem solving through space analysis, planning, and decoration of hypothetical design projects.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Utilize matrices and diagrams to fully visualize the space analysis draft process.
  2. 2. Utilize bubble diagrams to fully visualize the space analysis process.
  3. 3. Analyze and apply ergonomic design factors, building codes, accessibility codes, lighting and
    mechanical systems in the development of a floor plan.
  4. 4. Manipulate a building’s interior space with both practical and aesthetic considerations.
  5. 5. Select and specify furniture, accessories and finishes appropriate to interior type and purpose.
  6. 6. Arrange conventional furniture and office systems furniture.
