MLTS 205 Clinical Microbiology I
This course combines lecture and laboratory practice integral to the profession of Medical Laboratory Science. The course will focus on the following clinical topics: urinalysis, body fluids examination, parasitology, and mycology. Theory will be supplemented with hands-on microscopy and laboratory testing procedures.

2.25 hours theory, 3 hours lab weekly
Course Objectives
- 1. Demonstrate competence in using a microscope.
- 2. Correctly identify formed microscopic elements that may be found in urine and other body fluids.
- 3. Correctly perform and interpret clinical tests utilized in the study of urine and body fluids.
- 4. Evaluate normal versus abnormal results with focus on clinical correlation and quality assurance.
- 5. Interpret, compare, and analyze the clinical significance, characteristics, and tests used for various
parasites with special emphasis on the use of microscopy. - 6. Interpret, compare, and analyze the clinical significance, characteristics, and tests used for fungal
agents with special emphasis on the use of microscopy.
