MUSC 198 Pre-Professional Experience II
This course will serve as a continuation of MUSC 197 Pre-Professional Experience I and students will continue to explore the world of music education, through both theory and practice. It will continue laying a foundation for music education, focusing on secondary schools. It will equip students with musical skills and a range of learning experiences and teaching strategies for use in the secondary classroom. Regular on-site school visits at elementary, middle, and high school levels form the basis for discussion and exploration of all facets of the music education profession.

Course Objectives
- 1. Understand a variety of methods of teaching music in secondary schools.
- 2. Provide an awareness of the role that music plays in the curricular and community life of a secondary school.
- 3. Directly and practically engage in music making.
- 4. Display relevant personal and professional skills.
- 5. Plan and implement teaching strategies and worthwhile learning experiences appropriate to secondary music education through a range of performing, composing, and listening activities.
- 6. Reflect critically on the value of music as a way of knowing and understanding and to be managers of older students' cultural lives through music making and reflection.
