PTAP 260 Orthopedic Dysfunctions II

This course presents principles and concepts related to the treatment of patients following common orthopedic surgical interventions.  Post-operative protocols, tissue healing, and potential complications will be discussed in the context of implications for physical therapy interventions.

Course Objectives

1. 1. Demonstrate effective subjective and objective data collection for common post-operative conditions in the orthopedic patient.
2. 2. Describe common surgical and post-operative clinical interventions for orthopedic conditions.
3. 3. Integrate the principles of tissue healing into appropriate physical therapy interventions for a post-operative patient.
4. 4. Apply "best practice" treatment protocols for post-operative orthopedic conditions.
5. 5. Apply range of motion, stretching, joint mobilization, and soft-tissue interventions appropriate for the post-operative orthopedic patient using safe and effective techniques.
