TVRD 260 Commercial and Music Radio Production

This course is an in-depth study of music radio and commercial radio programming and production. Students will identify, analyze, and replicate a variety of commercial radio formats through hands-on radio production and programming. Course content will focus on the technical aspect of radio production as well as programming a quality music-based radio show according to a radio clock.

Course Objectives

  1. 1. Discuss the workings of a commercial radio station.
  2. 2. Program a radio music clock hour for a specific demographic for potential air on internet
    radio station.
  3. 3. Identify major music radio station program formats.
  4. 4. Write, produce, and voice a Public Service Announcement.
  5. 5. Write and produce a commercial with sound effects and multiple voices.
  6. 6. Write, produce, and voice news spots, weather, and traffic announcements.
  7. 7. Analyze and select appropriate sound effects and music.
  8. 8. Operate radio studio equipment, including microphones, at an advanced level.
  9. 9. Tape a phone call for playback on air.
  10. 10. Schedule commercials for a radio station.
  11. 11. Recognize and identify different types of world music.
  12. 12. Demonstrate an understanding of copyright law as it pertains to music/sound.
