ARTS 231 Printmaking Studio
This course is designed to build upon the methodologies, concepts, and skill sets gained in Printmaking I or Introduction to Printmaking. Students are encouraged to further develop their aesthetic approach, technique, and overall direction within their work through experimentation and research into methodologies, concepts, and skill sets as they apply to advanced topics in drawing. A significant feature of this course is the opportunity for individual student advisement, helping the student to gain insight into his/her personal process and direction as an artist. Faculty may modify the major topics of the course each semester in order to present students with new approaches deemed pertinent to the practice of Printmaking Studio.

Course Objectives
- Continue to learn the art of print and printmaking from both historical and contemporary contexts.
- Explore a variety of materials and tools to produce traditional and contemporary prints.
- Develop and apply technical expertise and skill in working with specialized tools to prepare substrates for printing and image making through an etching or pin press.
- Understand, apply, and demonstrate the printing processes from prepared substrates, make proof, print, and/or create a limited edition portfolio.
- Examine and investigate the global and political use of prints as a revolutionary medium.
- Learn about the various printmaking papers and their history and usage.
- Present a portfolio of prints demonstrating mastery in craftsmanship and quality of printed work.
- Participate in a meaningful and knowledgeable discussion and critique on aesthetics of prints.
