BMGT 241 Project Management

This course is designed to increase the knowledge and skills of students who are managing or working towards managing projects in a way that will be coherent, thoughtful, timely, and in alignment with an organization's objectives. It will teach a wide array of principles and components that include project initiation, planning, executing, performance, monitoring and controlling, cost management, and terminology, among others. It will also provide practical knowledge on managing the project scope, schedule, and resources. Concepts are applied through team projects and tutorials using project management software. Additionally, this course will fulfill the training requirement for the PMI Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM®) certification for those who elect to become certified.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify and analyze five basic process groups and nine knowledge areas that are typical in most
    projects.
  2. Identify the components of a project life cycle.
  3. Compare and contrast principles of project management.
  4. Select and use appropriate project structure charts, diagrams, and scheduling techniques and software, as
    well as other decision analysis tools.
  5. Evaluate outcomes of a project based on established objectives and overall project plan.
  6. Assess one's skills as a project leader, including competencies, roles, and responsibilities.
  7. Analyze and use all resources needed to perform project tasks and communicate in a collaborative way.
  8. Develop a system for managing a project while utilizing the Microsoft Project software application.
  9. Identify the requirements needed to sit for the PMI (CAPM)® certification.
  10. Describe the value of PMO Maturity and approaches to achieve.
