CMSY 120 Introduction to Computer Systems

Digital literacy is a top required skill in today’s job market. Developing these skills involves conceptual as well as hands-on learning of computer concepts and the characteristics, components, and use of computer systems and networks. The impact of technology on society will be also discussed in the course.

Course Objectives

  1. Select the appropriate technology to create the steps involved in the analysis and design of a computer system and identify the importance of each step.
  2. Differentiate between software categories such as applications software, systems software, and personal productivity software, and demonstrate effective use of the personal productivity software.
  3. Communicate and collaborate through the use of discussion boards, collaborative online tools, digital devices, and immersive technology (augmented reality and virtual reality).
  4. Differentiate between various types of cyber crime and practice safe computing.
  5. Identify immersive technologies and uses.
  6. Differentiate between various programming languages and describe the steps involved in writing a program.
