HMDV 207 Silas Craft Collegians Seminar VI

This course is a special, one-credit, culminating seminar specifically designed for students enrolled in the Silas Craft Collegians Program. This course will build upon ideas introduced in the five preceding Silas Craft HMDV seminar courses as well as advance students’ understanding of the importance of effective verbal and written communication, leadership skill acquisition, financial literacy, basic life skill application, salary negotiation, and personnel management as essential components to their success as students and leaders in their career fields.

Course Objectives

  1. Analyze and describe individual social ecology and articulate how it relates to goals for personal and professional success.
  2. Identify and employ resources to support the transfer process; set and assess progress toward SMART goals for individual transfer/graduation/career process.
  3. Investigate realistic career options; complete interest, ability, and values inventories and articulate their relevance for career planning and development.
  4. Employ career development and life skills in the areas of networking, managing the job application process, salary negotiation, budgeting, and investing.
  5. Identify and analyze leadership style and how it prepares the student for leadership positions as well as workplace management.
