HUMS 150 Community Resources and Partnerships

Implementation of community-based service models require extensive information about agency resources, familiarity with agency services, and establishment of opportunities that promote collaboration and working relationships among human service professionals. Students will participate in an interactive learning experience involving supervised field experience in an agency setting appropriate to the student's career goals. (80 hours of fieldwork/service learning required).

Course Objectives

  1. Identify a variety of agencies and community resources and explain the role of human service practitioners in these settings.
  2. Establish individualized performance and learning goals for the required field placement.
  3. Illustrate the need for coordination of services and describe how this is accomplished within agencies and through referrals to other organizations and services.
  4. Demonstrate professionalism and ethical behavior both onsite and in the classroom setting.
  5. Apply theory and techniques learned in lecture to the fieldwork setting.
