PSYC 202 Social Psychology

Through this introduction to the field of Social Psychology, students will be able to describe the major theories in social psychology and apply social psychological findings to real-world situations. Upon completion of this course, students will be able to apply research skills and critically analyze issues relating to social psychology.

Course Objectives

  1. Compare, contrast, and evaluate the major theories in social psychology.
  2. Apply social psychological concepts to everyday life.
  3. Analyze critically and evaluate strengths and weaknesses of research methods used in social psychology.
  4. Apply introductory research skills that psychologists use to gather and interpret information on the impact of culture on key social psychological concepts.
  5. Apply research skills to explore a topic within social psychology employing specific social psychological concepts, methods, and/or theories to understand behavior, institutions, and/or change over time.
  6. Formulate specific, unified, and concise theses through writing that demonstrate an understanding of social psychological thinking.
