THET 202 Advanced Acting

In this course, the student actor expands on the critical thinking and artistic skills initiated in THET 103, creating a more mature dialogue between theory and practice through in-depth scene and character analysis, strong partnering, and the development of a disciplined approach to the rehearsal and performance.

Course Objectives

1. Adapt performance to clearly convey characters for audience and context.
2. Organize and clearly convey language as a result of careful character and script analysis to determine the performance's structure and message.
3. Support a performance through detailed and relevant character analysis, script analysis and beat analysis.
4. Use appropriate actor skills and risk-taking to communicate clear, truthful and compelling performances, as well as use strong inter-personal skills to facilitate productive rehearsals between partners.
5. Identify, organize and articulate performance choices, major beats, and objectives through a variety of creative approaches, and advanced-level script analysis.
6. Generate and communicate ideas, exploring possibilities and considering alternatives for character goals, obstacles, tactics and expectations.
7. Analyze actor choices through a collaborative process, which generates ideas and outcomes that lead to artistic development of the actor.
8. Apply acting concepts and theories while developing multiple characters that exist within different contexts.
