URSC 201 Undergraduate Research Experience I

This course will prepare students to engage in meaningful mentor-directed research by introducing basic principles of academic research and elements of the research process, such as how to access and understand relevant literature, form teams with mentors, understand the context of the research project, and master techniques needed for data acquisition and analysis.

Course Objectives

  1. Demonstrate an understanding of the research process, and identify and apply appropriate research methodologies.
  2. Appropriately document research using a lab notebook or other tools.
  3. Utilize resources, including data bases, to find resource material.
  4. Discuss the importance of following a code of ethics in research.
  5. Analyze and discuss research articles found in peer reviewed research journals.
  6. Discuss scientific concepts, theories, and techniques relevant to the research project.
  7. Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively with a faculty mentor and other members of the research team.
