ARTS 121 Introduction to Digital Photography

Previously ARTT 146. This introductory digital photography course covers digital camera operation, exposure challenges, lighting techniques, composition, photo editing, and printing methods with a focus on creating imagery as a means of self-expression.  A DSLR or compact camera with manual controls and a tripod are required.

Course Objectives

  1. Identify and organize information and ideas to develop preliminary concepts as part of the creative process.
  2. Generate ideas, explore possibilities, and consider alternatives to reinforce preliminary concepts.
  3. Analyze and evaluate ideas or outcomes throughout the creative process.
  4. Apply information and ideas gathered through a creative process to other contexts.
  5. Use a digital camera and photo-editing software to achieve competencies in photography.
  6. Apply the basic principles of lighting and exposure to enhance image quality.
  7. Identify and apply the elements of photographic composition to the images created.
  8. Learn the basics of digital printing.
