1. Admissions
Applicants for the PhD in Health Professions Education must have an earned bachelor’s degree from either a regionally accredited U.S. college or university, or an accredited college or university (for those educated outside the U.S.).
Important: Applicants for the PhD in Health Professions Education program (33 credits) must have successfully earned a Master of Science in Health Professions Education from MGH Institute of Health Professions, or provide proof of graduate-level training and an earned degree that can be evaluated for equivalence to the MGH Institute MS in Health Professions Education. International applicants will need to fulfill the MGH Institute requirements for international students, in consultation with the PhD Program Director. Each individual case will be evaluated such that selected MS-HPEd courses can be required or can be waived based on the applicant’s prior masters-level courses.
Admission decisions are based on grade point averages (undergraduate and graduate), a written personal statement, written recommendations from former professors/clinical supervisors/colleagues, and a personal interview (when deemed necessary to make a final decision). Applicants have the option of submitting a personal diversity statement.
Admissions requirements and procedures are subject to change. The most current application, requirements, and procedures can be found on the MGHIHP website at
