4.1.1 Inter-Professional Education
In the first year, all students are enrolled in a three-course sequence (3 credits total) involving Inter-Professional Educational (IPE). Students learn alongside students in other programs.
HP 818 IMPACT I (1 credit – Fall 1) Interprofessional Practice provides foundational knowledge and exposure to the core competencies for interprofessional collaborative practice as students learn together in interprofessional teams of six to seven members. This course includes team-based projects on Community Impact Day held in September each year.
HP 819 IMPACT II (1 credit – Spring 1) Interprofessional Projects provides opportunities for IMPACT Practice teams to grow in the core competencies for interprofessional practice. Guided by a faculty mentor, teams engage in learning activities and projects drawn from a menu that includes community and health care delivery system exposure, team-building simulation experiences, and other of the Institute’s interprofessional extracurricular activities.
HP 821 IMPACT III (1 credit – Summer 2) Interprofessional Ethics anchors the IMPACT Practice curriculum by delving more deeply into the values and ethics that underlie professional practice and provides students with tools for managing ethical challenges they may encounter in practice.
