Licensure as a Registered Nurse
Advanced practice students in the Direct Entry Master’s NP program, or who enter a program as a licensed registered nurse (RN), must present proof of their nursing licenses to the Program Dean, or their designee. When relevant, it is the student’s responsibility to provide evidence of license renewal at the time of its expiration. Advanced practice students must present their licenses as soon as they are issued by the Board of Registration in Nursing. All RN licenses must be unrestricted. If required by the clinical agency, students will be required to obtain reciprocity.
An advanced practice student must pass the NCLEX prior to the start of their Theory I course. If a student is not able to pass NCLEX by this time, they must either request a leave of absence (maximum of one year) to resume the program after successfully obtaining licensure or withdraw from the program. The timing of the student’s return to the program will be based on course availability. If a student is not able to pass the NCLEX and obtain RN licensure within one year of eligibility*, the student will be dismissed from the program.
*To be eligible for the NCLEX exam, a student must have successfully completed the prelicensure course requirements.
