Mental Health Concentration

The undergraduate Psychology Mental Health Concentration is designed for students who are interested in understanding the psychological and emotional factors that contribute to mental health and well-being. This concentration provides students with a solid foundation in interviewing principles and practices, psychological assessment, and applied skills, with a specific focus on mental health.

Students in this concentration will learn about a range of topics related to mental health, including an introduction to mental health disorders, communication and interviewing skills, clinical documentation, and best practices in the mental health field.

Upon completion of the Psychology Mental Health Concentration, students will have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to pursue careers in mental health care, counseling, case management, behavioral health technician, or related fields. They will be well-prepared to continue their education in graduate programs in psychology or other mental health fields, or to enter the workforce in entry-level positions in mental health clinics, hospitals, or community organizations. Overall, the Psychology Mental Health Concentration provides students with a strong foundation in psychology, with a specific focus on mental health, and prepares them for successful careers in social and behavioral sciences. This concentration is well suited for students pursuing graduate degrees in the helping professions or those that may want to be employed in entry-level mental health positions after graduation.

At the completion of the program, students will be able to:

PLO #4: Apply psychological theory and skills in the professional environment.

PLO #5: Demonstrate understanding of the complexity of sociocultural diversity in the inquiry and analysis of psychological issues.

Concentration Details:

  •  Requires 15 QH for completion
  • Requires a minimum grade of "C" for each course in the concentration
  • Students may transfer up to 15 QH of concentration coursework
