Mathematics Minor
The Mathematics minor allows students to supplement their major with an investigation into Mathematics. The Mathematics minor offers skills and knowledge of mathematical theories and concepts intrinsic to the development of higher order thinking in the discipline of math. This minor is designed to create a model of inquiry-based and experiential learning in Mathematics as we apply best practices in rigorous computational, analytic, and problem-solving instruction within the Undergraduate College.
The Math minor is offered in fully online and blended 10-week formats.
Program Learning Outcomes (PLOs):
PLO 1. Apply major mathematical concepts, procedures, and knowledge to a variety of contexts, situations and real-world problems.
PLO 2. Demonstrate a range of mathematical problem-solving strategies to make sense of and solve non-routine problems (both contextual and non-contextual).
PLO 3. Organize mathematical reasoning and use the language of mathematics to express mathematical reasoning precisely, both orally and in writing to multiple audiences, to make connections to different mathematical branches and related disciplines.
PLO 4. Demonstrate knowledge of reasoning and mathematical thinking in abstract terms, construct coherent and correct proofs to articulate appropriate and valid arguments for their mathematical thinking.
Program Details:
- Requires 30 QH for completion
- Requires 15 QH to be completed at NLU
- Requires minimum grade of “C” for each course in the minor
