Clinical Instruction Program

Dr. David Howard, Director

Mission

The Clinical Instruction Program is designed to provide students the opportunity to develop distinct competencies in counseling skills, behaviors, and professional orientation/dispositions through clinical experiences and progressive levels of responsibility.

Clinical experiences are a vital part of the Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Psychology, particularly for students in the Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Marriage and Family Christian Counseling Programs. Students enrolled in these programs must complete PSCO/MFCC 6395 Practicum, PSCO/MFCC 6397 Internship I, and PSCO/MFCC 6398 Internship II. Students in the School Counseling Program must complete PSCO 6395 Practicum. Students in Practicum and Internship I and II receive regular evaluations of their clinical skills that measure their performance and counseling competencies. All students must make applicatoin before enrolling in the Practicum, Internship I, and Internship II. The applications may be obtained from the Graduate Counseling and Psychology Department website or from the Departmental Graduate Assistant. The completed and signed application should be submitted by the due date to the student’s advisor for the upcoming semester’s coursework.
