CHN 101 Beginning Chinese I

This is the first of a three-semester sequence for students who have little or no background in Chinese. The course builds basic language skills in Mandarin, although oral proficiency and character recognition are emphasized.

CHN 103 Beginning Chinese Language and Culture III

This is the third of a three-semester sequence for students with some background in Chinese. The course will continue to build basic language skills in Mandarin, although oral proficiency and character recognition are emphasized. By the end of this sequence, students will be able to identify components of other cultural perspectives and value other worldviews in comparison to their own.

CHN 203 Intermediate Chinese Language and Culture

Chinese 203 reviews fundamental skills developed in CHN 101-103 and develops further competencies in listening, speaking, reading, and writing Mandarin. Through communicative and multimedia activities, students will also learn more advanced grammatical structures and Chinese characters. The course presents elements of Chinese culture and history that will help students value other worldviews in comparison to their own.
