In-depth seminar on history and historiography of a selected topic in non-Western history. Designed for history major and minor students. May be repeated once for credit.

HST 470 The Practice of History

The first of two courses in the senior thesis sequence required for history majors. Students gain practice in historiography, primary documents collection and analysis, historical argumentation, and public presentation through developing and identifying a thesis topic.

HST 471 Senior Seminar

Study of the advanced techniques of research and writing of a senior thesis based on original research. Includes public presentation of results. Required for history majors.

HST 499 Senior Thesis

Research, study, or original work under the direction of a faculty mentor, leading to a scholarly thesis document with a public presentation of results. Requires approval of thesis director, department chair, dean, and the director of the honors program when appropriate.
