SPN 340 Donjuans and Domineering Mothers in Contemporary Spanish Theatre

Dramas, tragedies, and comedies illuminate stasis, change, and conflict in Spanish society across four centuries. Focused on the individual's struggle for rights against the reassertion of traditional social mores, we study the (re)formation of gender identities with a special focus on womanizers and maternal monsters. Activities include close reading of text, frequent writing, and live theater performance by students for oral practice.
