Service Learning
“Service-learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.” (National Service-Learning Clearinghouse) Western Piedmont students may participate in service learning in a variety of classes throughout a number of disciplines. Instructors will indicate that the course has a service learning component and will describe the criteria for successfully completing a service learning project. The service learning component may be required or optional. The College may recognize service learners in a number of formal ways during the academic year.
