The Computer Information Technology curriculum is designed to prepare graduates for employment with organizations that use computers to process, manage, and communicate information. This is a flexible curriculum that can be customized to meet community information systems needs.
Coursework will develop a student’s ability to communicate complex technical issues related to computer hardware, software, and networks in a manner that computer users can understand. Classes cover computer operations and terminology, operating systems, database, networking, security, and technical support.
Graduates should qualify for employment in entry-level positions with businesses, educational systems, and governmental agencies which rely on computer systems to manage information. Graduates should be prepared to sit for industry-recognized certification exams. Students should consult their advisor for information about course scheduling.
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in software applications, such as word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and business presentations
- Utilize the latest operating systems and systems software
- Apply problem-solving techniques and skills including the use of logic (GE II.6)
- Display knowledge of hardware/software maintenance, upgrades, and support
- Setup and manage client/ server systems in a Local Area Network (LAN)
- Design and implement technical solutions to optimize business processes
- Effectively use the Internet for research, communication, collaboration, and to create websites
- Create, implement, and maintain security policies and procedures
- Use written and oral discussion to discover and to articulate ideas (GE I.1)
- Demonstrate attitudes and skills that promote success in the workplace (GE V.5)
