Digital Effects and Animation Technology A.A.S.

The Digital Effects and Animation Technology curriculum is designed to provide students with the training necessary to become competent in creating, manipulating, and animating digital images. These skills have application in the production of a variety of moving image forms.
Students will take courses covering computer hardware/software applications, computer animation, creation and manipulation of digital images and nonlinear editing. They will become proficient at using media industry standard hardware/software to generate and manipulate images, and create digital special effects.
Upon completion of this program, students will be able to generate moving images and manipulate captured images for a variety of media production applications. Graduates should qualify for employment in the creation and/or editing of a variety of media forms. Students should consult their advisor for information about course scheduling.
Upon successful completion of this program, the student should be able to:
- Demonstrate proficiency in computer hardware/ software applications such as computer motion graphics animation, creation and manipulation of digital images, 3D content creation, video production techniques and nonlinear editing
- Utilize media industry standard hardware/software to generate motion graphics and digital special effects for video and web output
- Utilize MAC operating systems and MAC systems software
- Demonstrate knowledge of key terminology of production processes from pre-production to post production
- Design and implement portfolio content in both 2D, 3D content creation and video
- Develop proficiency in logic, problem solving, and programming skills
- Effectively use the internet for research, communication, collaboration, and create and maintain portfolio website
- Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills
Admission Policy
- Must have a High School Diploma or High School Equivalency Diploma;
- Complete College admissions and testing procedures;
- Interview and advisement with Coordinator of Digital Effects and Animation Technology Program;
- Achieve NC DAP Developmental Reading and English Composite Score of 136-150 or successful completion of DRE 097.
- NC DAP score of 7 or above in DMA 010, DMA 020, DMA 030, DMA 040, and DMA 050 or successful completion of DMA 010, DMA 020, DMA 030, DMA 040, and DMA 050 or a combination of the two.
Additional classes may be admitted to the program as deemed appropriate by the College. Due to limited laboratory space and course prerequisites, only students admitted to the Digital Effects and Animation Technology Program may enroll for courses with the DEA prefix. Should the number of qualified applicants exceed the number of available spaces, students will be admitted based upon the program application date.
