Student Financial Aid
Financial Aid is intended to help students who might not otherwise be able to attend college. Although the primary responsibility for meeting college costs rests with the student, it is recognized that many families have limited resources and are unable to meet the cost of a college education. A variety of financial aid programs (grants, scholarships, and loans) have been established to provide assistance to students with documented financial need.
Financial aid is awarded without regard to the applicant’s race, color, religion, creed, national origin, political affiliation, gender, age, disability, medical condition, veteran status, and other categories protected by federal, state, and local anti-discrimination laws.
Students wishing to receive financial assistance must have completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), have transcripts for a high school diploma or its recognized equivalent on file with the Records Office, be enrolled in an eligible program of study (POS) and maintain satisfactory academic progress as outlined in the Satisfactory Academic Progress Standards for Financial Aid Recipients.
The college administers these programs in accordance with all applicable laws, rules and regulations. Requirements and critical dates for receiving financial aid are outlined in the College Catalog and on the College website.
Financial aid offers and policies are subject to change by action of the federal and state governments.
For more information, see policy 05.01.030.
Financial Aid Application Procedure
The first step for students applying for financial aid is to complete a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This application must be renewed each academic year for a student to continue to receive financial aid. Certain scholarships and other types of aid may require a separate application available through the Financial Aid Office.
Additional information can be found on the WPCC website and the College Catalog under Financial Aid. Both are available from Student Services and on the College website.
