The Practical Nursing curriculum provides knowledge and skills to integrate safety and quality into nursing care to meet the needs of the holistic individual which impact health, quality of life, and achievement of potential.
Course work includes and builds upon the domains of healthcare, nursing practice, and the holistic individual. Content emphasizes safe, individualized nursing care and participation in the interdisciplinary team while employing evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and informatics.
Graduates are eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX-PN) which is required for practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse. Employment opportunities include hospitals, rehabilitation/long term care/home health facilities, clinics, and physicians’ offices.
Admission Requirements
To be eligible for Fall admission into the Practical Nursing (PN) program, applicants must:
- Complete all steps of the Western Piedmont Community College admission application with Practical Nursing as major by July 31st.
- Submit official high school and any college transcript.
- Complete the following developmental courses if required:
a. Eligible to take MAT 143 or higher without a co-requisite
b. Meet English competency to enroll in ENG 111 without a co-requisite
- Maintain a college GPA of 2.0 or a bachelore's or higher degree
- Score a minimum of 57 (unrounded) on the TEAS test (Test of Essential Academic Skills)
- Complete ACA 115
Successful completion of NUR 101, NUR 102, and NUR 103 is required for graduation. In addition, PN students must complete the following General Education (Gen Ed/ non-nursing) courses with a grade of “C” or higher to be eligible for graduation from the PN program:
